Kid Critic
Kid Critic
In the magical movie of Up by Pixar Animation, 78 year old Carl Fredrickson (played by Ed Asner) starts out lonely and quiet, finds a friend who becomes his wife as they have something in common they are Spirit of Adventure fans. The movie shows their lives progressing and as they get older things change. As a child, he crossed his heart (made a promise) to his wife, Ellie that they will visit Paradise Falls in South America (the home of Spirit of Adventure) a dream that eventually became true at the end of the movie. Carl does not want to deal with much as he is old and his body gets weaker, a cubscout named Russell (played by Jordan Nagai) knocks on his door offering assistance to the elderly man with anything to earn his last Senior Cubscout badge, the old man ignores him but gives up and asks him to go on a quest for a annoying snipe bird. When Carl decides to leave his home and go “up”, the cubscout catches a ride on the house being hoisted by balloons, and a mysterious knock on the door while the house is high in the sky, finally lets the scout in. The movie goes on with the cubscout and the old man’s adventures. Later in the story, Carl looks through an adventure book, wife Ellie who passed away earlier in the movie created for him sees a note next to their wedding photo that says “Dear Carl - We had an adventure now it’s your turn to make a new one.” He realizes that he owes that to Ellie, the whole reason he made his journey to Paradise Falls, her spirit is still with him and throughout the movie becomes pals with the young scout, Russell. The movie is very touching and has some funny bits. Unfortunately, Kid Critic did not get a chance to see Up in 3D but enjoyed it just as much in regular 2D version. The movie is full of passion and imagination.
Up is rated PG (Parental Guidance) for some action/fighting scenes but is not inappropriate and is suitable for any viewer of all ages. Up is an amazing, eye-catching movie that anyone should see of all ages. Kid Critic rates Up a full 5 out of 5, great job Pixar and Walt Disney!
